Architectural Evaluation of AEKI POS System
A software architecture project for AEKI, a retail point-of-sale system supporting online shopping and self-checkout flows. The work focused on designing for availability, scalability, performance, and modifiability.
Project Overview
Designed and evaluated the architecture of a retail POS platform that brings together online shopping and in-store self-checkout. The project translated business flows into concrete system responsibilities and quality-attribute requirements.
My Contribution
I designed the proposed microservice structure and API Gateway boundaries, defined the key quality attributes, applied ATAM to evaluate architectural risks and tradeoffs, and built Redis and Memcached prototypes for comparative cart-caching tests.
Technical Approach
Used the Architecture Tradeoff Analysis Method (ATAM) to identify risks, sensitivity points, and tradeoffs. Built shopping-cart caching prototypes with Redis and Memcached, then compared latency, throughput, and behavior under concurrent cart updates.
Architecture
Designed a microservice architecture behind an API Gateway, with independently scalable services and a dedicated caching layer for shopping-cart workloads.
